UPCOMING SEPTEMBER 2020 workshop for actors and pe

UPCOMING SEPTEMBER 2020 workshop for actors and performers in QLD.

Brenda Monaghan and this workshop is supported by the Queensland Government through ARTS QUEENSLAND to purchase SARTORI leather neutral masks from Italy.

'The Actors Body in Space' weekend workshop will be held in the lush countryside of Samford Valley, 12 - 13 September 2020.

Each participant will work with their own neutral mask to abide by COVID-19 regulations. The neutral masks used in this workshop are handcrafted by master mask makers in Italy, France, New Zealand and Argentina.

*10 places available (due to COVID-19 restrictions)

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
It’s easy these days to get caught up in our heads and feel disconnected from our body, our physical instincts, and the space around us. The problem with losing touch with our innate connection to our body also means we block or inhibit our alignment with our creative flow.

This workshop is a movement practice that serves as a pathway to connect you to your intuitive body, physical senses and impulses. It also incorporates an introduction to the NEUTRAL MASK. The neutral mask invokes a state of consciousness, a certain orientation of body, mind, and being, that enables an actor to enter the life of things in their essence. The neutral mask gives you access to a state of calm and presence within yourself so that you can discover confident, clear and authentic expression.

The foundation of the training is based on the philosophies and practice of past & present masters in the actor’s craft, namely Rudolf Laban, David Latham, Jerzy Grotowski, Jacques Lecoq & Jenny Kemp, as well as my own research for over 25 years.

When: 12-13 September 2020
Time: 9:45am - 4:30pm daily (participant's attend both days)
Where: Zen Space, 225 Mount Glorious Road, Samford Valley. QLD. 4520
Cost: $230 (Early bird rate by 6/9/2020), Full Fee $295
Pax: 10 people maximum for the workshop
Wear: comfortable clothes you can move in.

It's a late start to the year but upcoming workshops are now locked in and raring to go! With all that's been happening of late, these upcoming 2020 workshops are only available in QLD. But mask, movement and character workshops will hopefully be touring again next year, starting with Sydney in February 2021. Thinking of you all in Victoria and I'm looking forward to visiting next year. A big thank you to the Moreton Bay Regional Counci

A big thank you to the Moreton Bay Regional Council who recently presented me with an RADF grant. This grant allowed me the opportunity to work locally with some actors, to trial new actor training processes that expand on my current material in character embodiment. The processes explored were based on the work of Ariane Mnouchkine, Rudolf Laban and Etienne Decroux. The actors engaged in a series of 'outside in' processes that encouraged the creation and authentic embodiment of two dissimilar characters. This opportunity was very valuable to my practice. I was able to witness the benefit of actors working in this way through the great discoveries and developments they made in such a short space of time. I was also able to get instant feedback from the actors about their experience during the processes. I really felt that this opportunity gave everyone involved a much-needed lift, inspiring creativity, confidence, and a desire to connect with other artists, even in the face of COVID-19 restrictions at that time.
This work will be incorporated into my upcoming workshop in character embodiment that will be held in Samford in November 2020.
